Women's singles world No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland reached the third round of the US Open 2024 on Thursday with a 6-0, 6-1 dismissal of Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara in Arthur Ashe Stadium. As per Opta, Swiatek is the fifth player in the Open Era to reach R32 in 19-plus consecutive Grand Slam tournaments, joining Martina Navratilova, Stefanie Graf, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and Conchita Martinez. Swiatek is also the youngest player to win 20 of their first 22 second round appearances since Victoria Azarenka in 2012 who won 21 of her first 22 2nd-round matches.
