Cricket World Cup: Kohli won't be under pressure, feels Kallis
The Indian cricket team goes into the ICC World Cup 2019 as one of the leading sides. The team has been delivering consistent show under skipper Virat Kohli. But in their last ODI series ahead of the 2019 World Cup, Kohli's men suffered a 2-3 loss. There were some doubts raised, but South African legend Jacques Kallis has defended Kohli. Here's more.
'He has produced the goods time and time again'
"I don't think Kohli will be under pressure. He has produced the goods time and time again. He is a world class player and the guys follow what he does. He is certainly one of the best in the world," Kallis said.
Kohli's consistency makes him stay above the rest
Since the start of 2017, Kohli has already amassed 15 ODI tons. He goes in as India's best bet in the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. India are being considered one of the favorites and Kohli is being touted to have a great tournament. The consistency is what makes Kohli stand above the rest. He has battled pressure consistently.
India have played well in ODI cricket
Since the ICC Champions Trophy finale loss in 2017, India have won 10 ODI series out of 12. The two losses came against England in 2018 and Australia earlier this month. Kohli led the side to wins in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Kohli is a true modern day legend
Kohli amassed 1,202 runs in ODIs in 2018. He hit six hundreds and three fifties. The star player ended as the top run-scorer in ODIs both in 2017 and 2018. This year as well, Kohli has already slammed three centuries. He is leading the charts at the moment in terms of runs scored (611). He is averaging 55.54 with the bat.
Kohli has made it a habit to break Tendulkar's records
He has ruled the 50-over format like nobody else in the last few years. The 30-year-old has already smashed 41 ODI tons and needs nine more to surpass legend Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has constantly been going past Tendulkar's records. When asked whether Kohli can go on to break all the batting records of Tendulkar, Kallis said that the Indian captain can go far.
Kohli is hungry and works hard: Kallis
"Kohli I believe can go as far as he wants to. He is a world class player. He is hungry. He works hard. He has proved that over the years. The main thing about him is that he keeps it simple," said the Proteas legend.
