Sourav Ganguly thinks India can win the 2019 World Cup
The ICC World Cup 2019 is set to be held in England and Wales from May 30 onwards. With less than 100 days to go for the World Cup, several former cricketers have started picking their favorites. Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has also joined the bandwagon as he backed Virat Kohli's men to lift the title. Here is what he said.
India have played brilliantly since 2017 Champions Trophy
The Men in Blue have played some brilliant cricket in recent past. Since the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, India have won a total of 10 ODI series out of 11. Their only loss came against world number one ODI side England last year. India have reached newer heights in the format with the top-order being the backbone. Recently, India beat New Zealand 4-1.
India are prepared for the World Cup: Dada
Dada feels that India are well settled heading into the mega tournament. "India are favourites, they have played good cricket for the last 6-7 months, they are very prepared for the World Cup. This is the best possible team, all of them have performed and that's why they are in the squad," he told PTI during an event.
India look strong going into the World Cup
India have a well settled unit with several match-winners in the ranks. However, a few positions are up for grabs and we will get a clearer picture in the upcoming ODI series against Australia. India's top three in batting possess enormous character. The bowling quartet looks polished with each having wicket-taking attributes. The middle order too looks in a better shape now.
India will be challenged severely
India will be challenged severely by England. The hosts have also been superb in this format. They will leave no stones unturned to lift their first title. Eoin Morgan's side would also enjoy home support. The likes of Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa are in the mix as well. India open their campaign against the Proteas on June 5.
