ICC WODI Batting Rankings: Smriti Mandhana climbs to third spot
India's vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, has ascended to the third position in the latest ICC Women's ODI Rankings for batters. With a total of 738 rating points, she is now the highest-ranked Indian batter in the 50-over format. The updated rankings were released on Tuesday. Mandhana scored three successive 50+ scores in June, during the South Africa WODI series. Meanwhile, Team India skippper Harmanpreet Kaur has maintained her ninth position on the list.
Mandhana's impressive performance in recent ODI series
Mandhana demonstrated an exceptional performance during India's recent WODI series against South Africa in June. She hammered centuries in the first two games, with scores of 117 and 136, respectively. The star Indian opener fell 10 runs of her century in the third WODI. Notably, India routed South Africa 3-0 in the three-match series at home.
Mandhana surpasses 7,000 international runs
In the series opener against South Africa, Mandhana became the second Indian woman to complete 7,000 runs acorss formats. The southpaw is only behind the legendary Mithali Raj, who retired with a total of 10,868 international runs. Team captain Harmanpreet trails Mandhana. In that match, Mandhana scored an international hundred after over two years.
Mandhana broke Jaya Sharma's record
Mandhana attained the milestone during the third WODI between India and South Africa. Mandhana broke Jaya Sharma's record of scoring the most runs by an Indian woman in a bilateral ODI series. The latter amassed 309 runs in five innings against New Zealand (2003-04).
Mandhana retains fourth position in WT20I rankings
In addition to her ODI success, Mandhana has also maintained her fourth position in the ICC Women's T20I rankings. This comes after India's participation in the 2024 Women's T20 Asia Cup 2024. India finished as runners-up after losing the final to hosts Sri Lanka. Mandhana's consistent performances across both formats underscore her versatility and skill as a cricketer.
