Kohli to receive ICC Test Championship mace after 3rd T20I
The ICC will present the ICC Test Championship mace to Virat Kohli at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town after the end of the third and final T20I against South Africa today. On behalf of the ICC, ICC Cricket Hall of Famers, Sunil Gavaskar and Graeme Pollock of SA will make the presentation immediately after the awards ceremony for the T20I series. Here's more.
About the mace
In 2001, the then British Crown Jeweller, Asprey and Garrard, were accredited to prepare a prize for the number one ranked Test team. They named it ICC Test Championship mace. For the last 17 years, the team that manages to retain the number 1 spot of ICC Test rankings until April 1 gets to lift the mace. And, this year, India won the trophy.
India will remain number 1 team until cut-off date
The victory in the 3rd and final Test against South Africa ensured that India will retain the number one spot on the ICC Test Team Rankings till the April 3 cut-off date. India will also be awarded $ 1 million as prize money.
