Indian batting stars rise in ICC Test Rankings: Here's how
Despite not featuring in Test cricket since March 2024, Indian batters Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Yashasvi Jaiswal climbed up in the latest ICC Test Rankings. Each of the three players has moved up a spot in the top 10, with Rohit leading among Indians. Notably, India are set to take on Bangladesh in a two-match home Test series, starting September 19.
Rohit leads India's batting chart
Rohit, the Indian Test skipper, is currently the highest-ranked batter for the country in the format. He holds the fifth spot with 751 rating points. Jaiswal and Kohli trail closely behind him at sixth (740) and seventh (730) spots, respectively. Their rise in rankings was facilitated by England batter Harry Brook's underperformance in the three-Test series against Sri Lanka.
Brook's underperformance benefits Indian trio
Brook's disappointing performance in the 3rd and final Test against Sri Lanka, where he scored only 22 runs across two innings, resulted in a seven-position drop to 12th place with 709 rating points. This shift allowed the Indian trio to advance in their rankings. Meanwhile, Pakistan's Babar Azam is inching closer to reentering the top 10 batters list, currently holding the 11th position with 712 points.

Root retains top spot despite losing points
England's Joe Root, despite a subpar performance in the Oval Test against Sri Lanka where he scored only 25 runs in two innings, continues to hold his position as the top-ranked batter. However, this performance led to a loss of 23 rating points. He now stands with 879 rating points but retains his top spot in the ICC Test rankings.
