ICC T20I Rankings: Aussie pacer Josh Hazlewood rises to second
Australian cricket team pacer Josh Hazlewood has moved up to a career-best second position in the ICC T20I Rankings for Bowlers. Hazlewood, who was snapped up by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction over the weekend, has been in superb form in the ongoing T20I series versus Sri Lanka. Here are the key details.
Hazlewood is only behind Shamsi
Hazlewood has managed to claim eight wickets at an average of just over eight through the first three games of the T20I series against Sri Lanka. The right-arm pacer managed to jump four spots ahead of Adil Rashid, Rashid Khan, and team-mate Adam Zampa. He is only behind South Africa's Tabraiz Shamsi at the top of the charts. Hazlewood has 783 rating points.
Why does this story matter?
Hazlewood has shown why he is more than just a class Test player by upping his tempo in the shortest format as well. His accuracy and nagging lengths are key attributes for his success. Hazlewood has been doing well of late in T20Is and deserves his rise. He has played a key role in helping Australia take a 3-0 lead in the ongoing series.
Hasaranga slips to third
Wanindu Hasaranga has fallen two places to drop to third in the ICC T20I Rankings for Bowlers. He dropped from first to third after sitting out Sri Lanka's six-wicket loss on Tuesday night after testing positive for COVID-19. Hasaranga has 760 rating points. Adil Rashid, Adam Zampa, and Rashid Khan have dropped a place each as well.
Finch drops among batters, UAE's Mustafa rises
In the ICC T20I Rankings for Batsmen, Australian captain Aaron Finch dropped one spot to seventh. He has 701 rating points, being displaced by New Zealand's Devon Conway, who has risen one spot to sixth. In the ICC T20I Rankings for All-rounders, UAE's Rohan Mustafa has climbed five spots and is into the top 10 at seven.
