ICC Awards 2017: Virat Kohli is "Cricketer of the Year"
Indian skipper, Virat Kohli has been named both "ODI Cricketer of the Year" and "Cricketer of the Year" at the ICC Awards 2017. The 29-year-old, who has 32 ODI centuries to his name, scored six of them in just last year, averaging at an incredible 76.84. His ODI career average stands at 55.74, highest ever by a batsman from a Full Member nation.
Steve Smith is the "Test Cricketer of the Year"
Aussie captain, Steve Smith, who has been in the form of his life, has been named the ICC "Test Cricketer of the Year." Smith was recognized for his batting heroics at the Ashes where he scored 687 runs in the series at a staggering average of 137.40. He also won this award in 2015. Pakistani bowler, Hasan Ali won "Emerging Cricketer of the Year."
Virat Kohli named Captain of ICC Test and ODI teams
Virat Kohli has also been named the Captain of both ICC Test and ODI Teams at 2017 ICC Awards. It is only the fourth instance, where the same player was named captain for both the teams after Ponting (2004 and 2007) and MS Dhoni (2009).
Chahal wins "T20I Performance of the Year"
For his performance against England in Feb 2017, in Bengaluru, India's spin sensation Yuzvendra Chahal won the ICC award for "T20I Performance of the Year." The leg-spinner during the match registered bowling figures of 6/25 against the visitors. Afghanistan's 19-year-old Rashid Khan, who has been making waves in cricketing world, is named "Associate Cricketer of the Year." The youngster already has 112 international wickets.
Other awards
For the second consecutive year, South Africa's Marais Erasmus won the ICC "Umpire of the Year" award. Team Pakistan upsetting India in the final, to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, was named Fans' Moment of the Year.
