ICC doubles prize money for 2024 Women's T20 World Cup
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a record-breaking prize pool for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup. The total prize money for the 2024 edition, set to take place in UAE next month, has been increased to an impressive $7,958,080. This is more than double the amount allocated for the previous tournament in 2023. Here are further details.
Winners to receive $2.34 million
The winners of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 will receive a substantial prize of $2.34 million, marking a significant increase of 134% from the $1 million Australia received for the 2023 trophy. The runners-up in the upcoming tournament will also benefit from this increase, securing $1.17 million. This boost in prize money is part of ICC's efforts to promote and recognize women's cricket globally.
Semi-finalists and group stage winners also benefit
The two semi-finalists of the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup will receive $675,000 each, more than triple their 2023 payout. Additionally, $31,154 is the reward for each victory in the group stage, a 78% increase from last year's $17,500. This extension of prize money beyond knockout stages is another step by the ICC toward ensuring all teams are well-supported.
All participating teams to receive base prize
Teams which crash out of the group stage not leave empty-handed. A prize of $112,500 will be awarded to all 10 participating teams, totaling $1.125 million. This ensures that every team receives a substantial amount for their participation, regardless of their final standing in the tournament.
Additional prizes for teams finishing fifth to 10th
Teams finishing fifth to eighth in the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup will now earn $270,000 each, while those finishing ninth and 10th will each receive $135,000. These additional prizes further demonstrate ICC's commitment toward growing and recognizing women's cricket on a global scale. The tournament is set to commence on October 3 with all group matches completed by October 15.
