Ian Chappell says cricketers being punished for CA's wrongdoings
Former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell has hit out at Cricket Australia for the incompetence of the administrators which led to players being punished. He was referring to the ball-tampering scandal, which saw Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft face a lengthy ban. Although CEO of Cricket Australia, James Sutherland, announced his resignation after the incident, no other administrator faced punishment.
His comments come after Ethics Center review
An independent body called the Ethics Center released a scathing review of Cricket Australia in the aftermath of the ball-tampering scandal. The board was called 'arrogant', and 'dictatorial'. CA has also been blamed for the scandal. Further, the review revealed a huge gap in communication between the board and players, with many players thinking they are being treated as commodities.
Chappell's comments show he is livid with the administrators
Chappell has said that some of the administrators need to be shown the door just like the players were banned after the incident. Chappell, in his interview with Fox Sports Australia, said, "But that's the history of the game. The administrators make the mistakes and the players cop the punishment." He believes that the anger of players towards the administrators is justified.
Australian Cricketers' Association feels bans can be reduced
Due to their involvement in the ball-tampering incident, Steve Smith and David Warner are facing bans of one year each, while Cameroon Bancroft's ban is set to end in December. Australian Cricketers' Association, however, believes now that the blame does not entirely lie on them, and their bans should be lifted. Cricket Australia has announced that the body does not feel the same way.
