Last month, the national selectors ignored Delhi Capitals and Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant for the World Cup 2019. His exclusion has been a major discussing point among cricket fans. Since then he has proved himself by guiding DC to the play-offs of the Indian Premier League. Notably, almost everyone had criticized Pant for his performance against Australia, as the youngster recounted his reaction.
I take any criticism positively, says Pant
Talking about the issue, Pant told The Times of India that he does not get bothered by criticism, but takes it in his stride. He said that he is still learning and he will grow gradually and consistently by learning from his experiences and mistakes. He further voiced that he is focusing on finishing matches for now as it is really important for him.
Pant believes he will mature with time
"Things don't change overnight. I am just 21. It is difficult to think like a 30-year-old man. In due course, my mind will be stronger and there will be a lot of maturity. You need to give it time," Pant voiced.
Pant is used to being ignored
While Pant definitely was not comfortable talking about his World Cup snub, he did say that he is used to it as it has happened with him before, even at the domestic level. "It is a setback when you are not selected. I am used to it. But, a professional should know how to deal with it," said Pant.
Pant accepts talent needs hard work as well
Commenting on his talent, Pant said that while it is good to be talented, it has to be complemented with hard work. Pant labeled that in order to play cricket at the highest level, even a talented sportsman has to put in hard work. "I was always told to focus on myself, not think ill of others," said Pant.
"I need to improve as a player"
"I need to work on all facets- be it the game or the approach I'll take that one at a time. Popularity will come along. But, I have to focus on what I need to do to improve as a player," maintained Pant.
Pant and Delhi aim to win maiden IPL title
As of now, Pant, along with Delhi, is all focused on playing the best cricket in the play-offs. They would wish to stand tall against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator. If they win, they would have to play Qualifier 2. On being asked what are his aims, Pant had only one reply, "There's only one aim now. Win the IPL."
