Rinku Singh expresses desire to play Test cricket: Details
Rinku Singh, a prominent figure in white-ball cricket, has recently expressed his ambition to represent India in Test matches. Despite his impressive average of 54.70 in First-Class cricket, Singh was not selected for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, scheduled to start on September 5. The cricketer from Aligarh has a deep affinity for red-ball cricket and aspires to excel across all three formats for the country.
Rinku's passion for red-ball cricket
In a recent interview with News 24, Rinku shared his passion for red-ball cricket. "I want to play all three formats of the game. I like playing Test cricket a lot. My batting average in red-ball cricket is 55," he said. He further emphasized his enjoyment of this format by stating, "I really like to play against the red ball."
Singh's aspiration to represent India in T20 World Cup
Despite being a strong contender for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Rinku's limited IPL opportunities hampered his progress. The selection committee favored Shivam Dube over him due to this reason. However, undeterred by this setback, Singh is determined to work harder and secure a place in the next T20 World Cup, which will be held in India in 2026.
Rohit's advice to Rinku
In the same interview, Rinku shared the advice he received from Indian skipper Rohit Sharma post his T20 WC snub. Sharma emphasized the importance of perseverance and focusing on future opportunities. He told Rinku, "don't worry, you are still very young. There will be many World Cups in the future. Keep working hard. There is a World Cup every two years, so focus on that."
