Shakib vows to keep emotions under control after clash-ridden T20I
Bangladesh's captain Shakib Al Hasan has vowed to keep his emotions under control after heated altercations and ugly scenes marred the country's dramatic win over Sri Lanka. It was a must-win game for both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. In the virtual semi-final last night, Bangladesh defeated hosts Sri Lanka by two wickets to set-up final against India on Sunday. Here's more.
What happened on the field last night?
The thrilling game was marred by ugly scenes after the umpires refused to award a no-ball, when Isuru Udana bowled a second short-pitched delivery in the final over. Bangladesh needed 12 runs in the last over to win. An agitated Shakib came down the stairs and waved at his batsmen to return to the pavilion. But senses prevailed and Bangladesh registered a momentous win.
What did Shakib say in the post-match conference?
"I wasn't calling them (batsmen) back. I was telling them to play. Many things happened that shouldn't have happened. I need to remain calm. I was overjoyed. I must know how to react next time. I will be careful," Shakib said.
