What's the story

India's veteran wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni, who captained India against Afghanistan on Tuesday in the 2018 Asia Cup, took a dig at the umpires. The match saw some umpiring blunders as India were held to a tie by Afghanistan in the Super Four dead-rubber encounter. India were bowled out for 252 after the Afghans managed 252/8 in the first innings. Here's more.

Dismissals

Both Dhoni and DK were adjudged wrongly for LBW

India saw both Dhoni and DK being given out LBW in the match by on-field umpires Gregory Brathwaite of West Indies and Anisur Rahaman of Bangladesh. Replays showed that both the dismissals were actually not out as the ball was missing the stumps. MSD said, "There were a few things we can't talk about because I don't want to get fined for it."

Decisions

Why was Dhoni aggrieved?

Dhoni is right to feel aggrieved by the umpiring decisions. The senior player was dismissed by off-spinner Javed Ahmadi as replays showed that the delivery was going over the stumps and wasn't hitting the wickets. DK was well settled and was given out LBW despite the ball missing the leg stump by miles. The two wickets fell at a crucial time for India.

Wickets

Both wickets came at a crucial point

Dhoni fell as the score read 142/3 and Afghanistan started making the inroads. DK continued to bat and score the runs, but he too fell at a crucial juncture. India were 205/6 when DK got out and that was right after Kedar Jadhav's bizarre run-out. Afghanistan then applied the pressure and the Indians huffed and puffed to get to Afghanistan's score, but couldn't win.

Praise

Dhoni praises Afghanistan and says they have improved

Post the match, MS Dhoni praised Afghans for their enormous effort. "Their (Afghanistan's) cricket has improved a lot. The way they have continued from the start of the Asia Cup, it is commendable and we have enjoyed their cricket. It is one country that has risen through the ranks very well," Dhoni said.
