Decoding Jasprit Bumrah's stunning record in home Tests
Eyes will be on Jasprit Bumrah as India gear up to host Bangladesh in a two-Test series, starting on September 19. Though the Indian tracks are majorly known to favor spinners in red-ball cricket, Bumrah has aced this challenge. He has delivered several scintillating spells on Indian soil and his numbers are testimony of his brilliance. Let's decode his stats.
Second-best bowling average in India (among pacers)
Having played eight home Tests, Bumrah has claimed 33 wickets at 15.76. The tally includes two fifers. As per ESPNcricinfo, no other pacer has a better average among bowlers with as many or more wickets than Bumrah in India. Mohammed Shami (22.10) trails Bumrah among Indians on this list. Notably, Bumrah has not played home Tests regularly due to fitness and workload concerns.
Here are his Test numbers
Having played 36 Tests, Bumrah has scalped 159 wickets. As per ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah's current bowling average of 20.69 is the third-best among bowlers with 150 or more Test scalps. He is only behind England's Sydney Barnes (16.43) and Australia's Alan Davidson (20.53) in this regard. The Indian pacer owns 10 fifers in this format. He is yet to play a Test against Bangladesh.
Stunning numbers in overseas Tests
Bumrah is one of only six Indians to have taken over 100 wickets in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). With 113 wickets at 23.28, he is only behind Anil Kumble, Ishant Sharma, Shami, Zaheer Khan, and Kapil Dev. Bumrah has the joint second-most five-fifers (6) in SENA nations for India. He is only behind Kapil Dev (7).
