Are Manchester United finally on the path to revival?
Manchester United have been enduring a terrible season so far, with them sitting on the eighth spot of the Premier League table and hardly posing a challenge to the top-level performers, Manchester City or Liverpool. But they have definitely made an improvement from where they were, at the start of this season. Here we try and decode the performance of the Red Devils.
United's on-field performance has shown positive signs
Without any doubt, United have developed their football in the last few matches. At the start of the season, they were terrible, and lost against a weaker opponent like Brighton. Their pace has improved, and there is a marked advancement in the attacking section, with United playing more than just long balls. However, is this enough to match Liverpool, City, and Chelsea? No.
The areas where United are falling behind
United severely lack a prolific goal-scorer among their forwards and this is something which needs immediate attention. Lukaku's form has taken a hit, and Scholes was right when he said one cannot expect to win with a striker like Lukaku. Other additions should be a strong central mid-fielder, who would orchestrate the attacks and a world-class center-back in defense.
United must realize comebacks will not always happen
United came back from behind to win against Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Juventus. However, only in the match against Juventus, this can be respected as they are one of the best teams across Europe. However, if you concede goals against sides like Newcastle, that too twice in the first half, you need to be asking some serious questions.
Football has changed, Mourinho needs to rethink his tactics
Look at Liverpool, City, and Chelsea- they have developed tactics and play by a concrete style. Sarri has redeveloped Chelsea, they play forward passes and attack continuously using Hazard as the key. Liverpool have developed a high-pressing style of football which has given them results. It is high-time for United to radically change their tactics. Are you listening, Jose?
