Stats and records of Nicholas Pooran in IPL 2024
Lucknow Super Giants missed out on a playoff berth in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). KL Rahul's team lacked in several departments as they managed seven wins and as many defeats. Meanwhile, Nicholas Pooran enjoyed a dream season for LSG as the southpaw played several breathtaking knocks. He even scripted some key records. Let's decode his campaign in IPL 2024.
Highest average in IPL 2024
Pooran was unarguably LSG's most valuable batter in the competition. The swashbuckler, who managed 499 runs from 14 games, smoked 36 sixes. The tally includes three fifties. The West Indian batter struck at 178.2 as his average of 62.38 was the best among all batters this year. Meanwhile, only skipper Rahul (520 at 37.14) managed more runs for LSG in the season.
Third most sixes in the league stage
Pooran's tally of 36 sixes was the most for a foreign batter in the league stage of IPL 2024. In the overall list, the LSG star is only behind SRH's Abhishek Sharma (41) and RCB's Virat Kohli (37). Meanwhile, Pooran also smoked 35 boundaries. No other LSG batter even managed 20 sixes as Rahul trails Pooran with 19 maximums.
Second-best strike rate in middle overs
As per ESPNcricinfo, Pooran scored 297 runs in the middle overs (7-16) this year. His strike rate of 171.67 in this phase was only second to RCB's Rajat Patidar (180.68) among batters with 200-plus runs in these overs. Meanwhile, Pooran struck at 177.08 in the death overs (17-20), accumulating 170 runs in this phase.
One of the three batters with this record
Pooran scored a sensational 19-ball half-century in the game against Mumbai Indians. He ended up scoring 75 off just 29 balls, his second-highest score in IPL. Pooran now has three IPL fifties under 20 balls, the joint-most for any batter in the competition's history. He shares the top spot with Australian dashers Travis Head and Jake Fraser-McGurk.
Other records scripted by Pooran in IPL 2024
During his 75-run stay against MI, Pooran completed 7,000 T20 runs (now 7,003). The southpaw earlier became the 5th West Indian batter with 100-plus sixes in IPL (now 127). He also became the sixth WI batter to smash 1,500-plus IPL runs (now 1,769). Three of the four fastest individual half-centuries for LSG belong to Pooran.
