Cricket West Indies President criticizes ICC for suspending Jason Holder
The ICC's decision to suspend Jason Holder for the third Test against England did not go well with several former players, and now Cricket West Indies President has lashed out at the governing body. ICC's decision is facing widespread criticism
The decision was taken by the ICC despite the Test match getting over within three days. This move has garnered widespread criticism from the cricket fraternity. For Windies, Holder has been one of the chief architects of this series victory, with a dead-rubber Test to be played in St Lucia. Windies cricket chief Dave Cameron has raised questions about the ICC's move.
Cameron questions punitive action of the ICC
"We will, of course, abide by the ICC ruling. What a shame if the series is remembered not for the sparkling play of the reinvigorated West Indies players but for a crippling decision made by a rule that ought to be modified," said Cameron.
Windies were two overs short of their target: ICC
The ICC said, in a statement earlier this week, that the Windies were two overs short of their target in the second Test. The board also fined the team's other players 20 percent of their match fees. Kraigg Brathwaite will lead the side and all-rounder Keemo Paul was roped in to replace Holder. Holder was magnificent for the Windies in both the Tests.
Former cricketers Warne and Vaughan had criticized the ICC
Earlier, former cricketers Shane Warne and Michael Vaughan criticized the ICC for its decision to suspend Holder. Warne urged the Windies skipper to appeal against this suspension and also questioned ICC's common sense. Vaughan also opined that Holder was unlucky to have received the suspension and felt that the game doesn't help itself with such decisions.
