#IndiaInEngland: Can Kohli join this elite list?
Over decades, a few cricketers have scored runs aplenty on English soil in a single series. Sir Donald Bradman ruled English bowlers like no other batsmen in the history of cricket. West Indians Vivian Richards, Gary Sobers and Brian Lara were successful against Englishmen, as well. Here we look at players with most runs in a Test series against 'The Three Lions' in England.
Bradman dictated proceedings on English soil
Bradman excelled in the 2-1 Ashes series win by Australia against England in 1930. He scored 974 runs in the 5-match Test series, which still remains a world record. Don notched 4 centuries that included a triple and two double tons. The legendary batsman was, once again, on top of his game in 1934, when he scored 758 runs at an average of 94.75.
West Indies trio massacred English bowlers
West India trio of Richards, Sobers and Lara came out and scored runs aplenty for their side in England. In 4 Tests, Vivian Richards scored 829 runs, that included three centuries. Prior to that, Sobers had scored 722 runs in a 5-match series in 1966. He had amassed three tons. Lara scored 765 runs across 6 Tests in 1995. His average was 85.00.
Taylor, Smith were top notch
Mark Taylor stand second in the list of players with most runs in an away series against England. The southpaw scored 839 runs in 1989 across 6 Tests. He had hit two tons in the Ashes, back then. South African Graeme Smith showed his class in 2003, when he scored 714 runs across 5 Tests. He hit two centuries with a best of 277.
Can Kohli join these elite cricketers?
Kohli has amassed 440 runs across three Tests so far. The 29-year-old has hit two centuries already besides slamming two fifties as well. With two more Tests remaining and Kohli enjoying the form of his life, he can get to a big overall tally. He needs 275 runs to go past Smith. One will hope Kohli scores crucial runs and guides India home.
