Presenting the highest individual scores by non-openers in IPL history
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a spectacle for cricket lovers over the years. The tournament features T20 talismans from all over the world. Meanwhile, IPL 2024 has also witnessed some high-voltage action on the field. In fact, eight of the nine highest scores in IPL history have come this year. Here are the highest individual scores by non-openers in IPL history.
Marcus Stoinis - 124* versus CSK, 2024
Lucknow Super Giants' Marcus Stoinis was at his best against CSK in the league stage of IPL 2024. His unbeaten 124(63) powered LSG to a six-wicket win as they chased down 211 in Chennai. Stoinis, who batted at number three, found boundaries for fun toward the end. The Australian now has the highest individual score in IPL run-chases.
Rishabh Pant - 128* versus SRH, 2018
Batting at number four, Rishabh Pant slammed an unbeaten 128(63) against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2018. The Delhi Capitals dasher fought alone as none of his teammates could even touch the 25-run mark. The southpaw took just 20 balls to go from 50 to 100. Pant's ton meant Delhi posted 187/5 while batting first. SRH, however, accomplished the target.
AB de Villiers - 129* versus GL, 2016
Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru ace AB de Villiers mustered a brilliant 52-ball 129* against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016. He arrived at number three and went after the bowlers straightaway. The Proteas star dominated a 229-run stand with fellow centurion Virat Kohli (109) as RCB finished at 248/3. The Lions were folded for 104 in response.
AB de Villiers - 133* versus MI, 2015
De Villiers also sits atop this elite list. The RCB swashbuckler made an unbeaten 59-ball 133 against Mumbai Indians in 2015. He arrived at three in the fourth over and did not take long to open his arms. While de Villiers completed his fifty off 29 balls, he became absolutely ruthless thereafter. RCB finished at 235/1 and later won the contest by 39 runs.
