IPL: A look at unique records scripted in the league
The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will start from March 23 onwards and there is plenty of excitement among the fans. The global T20 league has witnessed several records over the years, scripted by teams as well as players. Further, there are some records which are rather unique. Ahead of IPL 2019, we look at the same.
Nehra, Edwards almost identical in best economical spell
Ashish Nehra and Fidel Edwards boast of the best economical spell in an innings in the IPL. Interestingly, both these bowlers have almost identical match figures. Edwards (4-1-6-0) is on top of the list. He achieved the feat for DC against KKR in 2009. Nehra (4-1-6-1) has the second best economical spell. He notched the same for Delhi against KXIP in 2009.
An unique record for the most matches played in IPL
When it comes to most matches played in the IPL, the top 10 list features only Indian players. Only two foreigners feature in the top 15 for the most IPL matches. AB de Villiers (141) and Kieron Pollard (132) are on 13th and 15th position respectively. Interestingly, both ABD (114) and Pollard (132) have played 100-plus matches for a single IPL side.
Unique records in terms of awards won
Chris Gayle has got the most Maximum Sixes Award in the IPL (4). Interestingly, he won this award for RCB on three successive occasions in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Only two Indians have bagged the Most Valuable Player in the IPL across 11 seasons- Sachin Tendulkar (2010) and Virat Kohli (2016). Eight Indians have won player of the match award in IPL final.
Piyush Chawla bowled his maiden IPL no-ball after 386 overs
KKR's ace spinner Piyush Chawla has showed his craft in the IPL. The former KXIP spinner, who has taken 140 IPL wickets, has hardly bowled no-balls. He holds an unique record of bowling the maximum deliveries before bowling a no-ball. His first no-ball came against Delhi in 2016. Prior to that, he had bowled a staggering 386 overs in his IPL career.
Zaheer Khan holds this weird feat in the IPL
Zaheer Khan holds an amazing record of featuring in the first and the 500th match of the IPL. He featured for RCB in the first match of the tourney against KKR on April 18, 2008. The 500th game of the IPL was played between Rajasthan and Delhi in 2015. Zak represented Delhi in the 500th game. Interestingly, both RCB and Delhi lost these matches.
