Heinrich Klaasen's fiery 67 powers SRH to highest IPL total
The Heinrich Klaasen storm hit Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 30 of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). The Sunrisers Hyderabad batter unleashed absolute carnage as he made 67 off just 31 balls. His knock was studded with two boundaries and seven maximums. His brilliance powered SRH to the highest-ever IPL total (287/3). Here we look at his stellar stats.
A stunning hand from Klaasen
Centurion Travis Head (102) got SRH off to an absolute flier as Klaasen arrived with the scorecard reading 102/1. The latter did not take long to open his arms as the scoring rate continued to surge. He added 58 runs with Head before dominating a 66-run stand with Aiden Markram (32*). Klaasen fell to Lockie Ferguson in the final ball of the 17th over.
Brilliant end from Markram and Samad
SRH were 231/3 in 17 overs at the time of Klaasen's dismissal. While RCB would have hoped to pull this at this point, Markram and Abdul Samad had other plans. The duo added 56 runs in the final three overs to propel SRH to the historic total. While Markram made an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls, Samad made 37* off just 10 deliveries.
Second-highest T20 total
Notably, SRH broke their own record for the highest IPL total. They compiled 277/3 against Mumbai Indians last month. As Kolkata Knight Riders posted 272/7 against Delhi Capitals, the top-three highest team totals in IPL history have come this season. Meanwhile, SRH's 287/3 is now the second-highest T20 total. Nepal hold the record for posting 314/3 against Mongolia in September last year.
Third fifty for Klaasen this season
Meanwhile, this was Klaasen's third fifty in IPL 2024 as he has raced to 253 runs across six games, striking at 199.21 Overall, the South African dasher owns 767 runs from 25 IPL matches at 42.61 (SR: 175.51). He registered his fifth IPL fifty (100s: 1). He has now raced to 4,133 T20 runs at strike rate of 151-plus (100s: 2, 50s: 26).
Other records scripted by SRH
SRH breached the 200-run mark in 15 overs, the third-fastest for any team in IPL history. The Orange Army hit a total of 24 sixes, the highest for a team in an IPL innings. As many as four RCB bowlers conceded 50-plus runs. This is the first instance of more than two bowlers conceding as many or more runs in an IPL innings.
Fastest ton for SRH
Notably, Head recorded the fastest hundred by a SRH batter as he reached the milestone off just 39 balls. He ended up scoring a 41-ball 102 (9 fours, 8 sixes). Head overall slammed the fourth-quickest IPL ton. He is only behind Chris Gayle (30 balls), Yusuf Pathan (37 balls), and David Miller (38 balls).
