Tejinder's father passes away before he could show his gold-medal
Asian Games 2018 shot put gold medalist, Tejinder Pal Singh Toor, battled all odds to claim the first prize in Indonesia. The 23-year-old had left his ailing father behind, who was fighting cancer. Unfortunately, before he could show the gold medal to his father, Tejinder lost his father to cancer. Our heart goes out for Tejinder.

Tejinder hails from Moga, a village in Punjab. He aspired to be a cricketer, but his father encouraged him to take shot put. He started to make a name in the sport and his dedication helped him win the gold at the Games. On his way to his hometown, he learnt about his father's demise.

Tejinder's father, Karam Singh, made a lot of sacrifices for his son and wanted him to go and chase his dreams. Karam desired his son to win the gold at the Games. According to reports, his father's last wish was to hold the gold medal in his hands, but that didn't happen. He was battling against cancer since quite sometime now.

Tejinder Pal Singh clinched the gold medal, for India, as he won the shot put event. He notched a stunning 20.75m in his fifth throw to break the Games record, scripted earlier by Saudi Arabia's Abdulmajeed (20.57m). He needs to be lauded for his mental strength.
