Uncapped Michael Neser to replace injured Hazlewood
Australia have been dealt with another major blow after pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the ODI series against England, starting next month. Hazlewood was the most experienced speedster in Australia's line-up. He will now be replaced by uncapped Michael Neser. Hazlewood is currently nursing a back injury which forced him to withdraw from the series.
Depleted Australia face a stern challenge in England
The Australian men have a depleted squad with experienced fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins already on the sidelines due to injuries. Adding to that Steven Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft will not be a part of the squad. They are serving a ban for their involvement in the ball tampering scandal that rocked Australian cricket.
Back troubles rule Hazlewood out of England tour
"Josh has been managing some low-level bone stress in his lumbar spine. He had a repeat scan today and although it has not progressed to a fracture he is starting to experience some lower-back pain...he will not travel to England." CA physiotherapist said.
Onus now on Tye and Richardson
Australia will be without any of their Ashes-winning bowlers in England, when they play a five-match ODI series against the top-ranked team in the world. However, Purple Cap winner (IPL 2018) Andrew Tye and Kane Richardson will be touring with the squad. They would hope to provide enough cover in the absence of Australia's dominating pace trio.
