Bangladesh's Hasan Mahmud accomplishes numerous feats with 2nd Test fifer
Bangladesh's rising pace-bowling sensation Hasan Mahmud took a remarkable five-wicket haul in the first innings of the 1st Test against India in Chennai. Despite being relatively new to the international cricket scene with just three Tests under his belt, the 24-year-old pacer demonstrated exceptional skill en route to his second Test fifer. His brilliance meant India were folded for 376 while batting first.
Mahmud perturbs India's top order
Mahmud ran through India's top order on Day 1. He drew the first blood by removing opener Rohit Sharma in the sixth over. In his very next over, the right-arm seamer dismissed Shubman Gill for an eight-ball duck. Mahmud then sent back Virat Kohli to reduce to India to 34/3. Rishabh Pant (39) was his final victim on the opening day.
Mahmud puts the final nail in the coffin
A 199-run stand between all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja (86) and Ravichandran Ashwin (113) rescued India. Hence, Mahmud had to wait long for his fifer. He finally reached the landmark by dismissing Jasprit Bumrah on Day 2 morning. The latter was the last Indian batter to be dismissed. Meanwhile, Mahmud's partner-in-crime Taskin Ahmed dismissed three Indian batters.
2nd Test fifer for Mahmud
Mahmud finished with figures worth 5/83 across 22.2 overs. Mahmud made his Test debut against Sri Lanka earlier this year. Despite Bangladesh's loss in both Tests, he left a mark by recording six wickets in the 2nd game. He continued this form into Bangladesh's historic 2-0 away series victory over Pakistan. Playing his fourth Test, he has raced to 19 wickets at 22.78.
Mahmud accomplishes these feats
As per Cricbuzz, Mahmud became the second Bangladesh pacer after Shahadat Hossain to record a Test fifer against India. Overall, he is fifth from the nation to get this feat. He is also the first Bangladesh bowler to register a Test five-wicket haul in India. He also became the third Bangladesh pacer after Shahdat (4) and Robiul Islam (2) to record multiple Test fifers.
