Champions Trophy: Shikhar Dhawan backs Harshit Rana as India's 'x-factor'
What's the story
Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has thrown his weight behind young fast bowler Harshit Rana, ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
He feels Rana could prove to be a key asset for the Indian team, particularly with Jasprit Bumrah missing out due to injury.
"Harshit Rana's inclusion is exciting — keep an eye on him, he could have a breakout tournament," Dhawan said.
Rising star
Rana's impressive performance in England series
Rana has been picked as Bumrah's replacement for the upcoming tournament.
His fearless approach and brilliant performance in the recent England series, which marked his ODI debut, have impressed Dhawan.
"I like his attitude; he's a go-getter who isn't afraid of challenges," Dhawan told ICC.
In the England ODI series, Rana took six wickets across three games.
High hopes
Dhawan's optimism about Rana's potential
Despite recognizing Bumrah's unique bowling style and composure under pressure, Dhawan is hopeful that Rana will be the one to shine in Dubai.
"We saw in the England series that he is in good form. If he seizes this opportunity, he could provide a real x-factor for India," Dhawan added.
He also lauded the strong form of Indian batters like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill ahead of the tournament.
Balanced team
Dhawan's confidence in India's batting lineup
Dhawan also expressed confidence in India's well-rounded batting lineup, which features a combination of experienced players and emerging talents.
"There are many reasons to be optimistic about India. They have a well-balanced batting lineup with a mix of experience and youth," he said.
He particularly highlighted Gill's consistency, predicting that he will have an outstanding tournament.
