Vaughan criticizes Brook's approach against spin in India T20I series
What's the story
Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has criticized Harry Brook for his approach toward spinners in the recently concluded T20I series against India.
He noted that Brook's failure to deal with spin properly was taken advantage of by the Indian side.
The right-handed batter could only score one half-century in five matches, amassing 91 runs at a dismal average of 18.20.
Here's what Vaughan had to say.
Performance analysis
Brook's struggle against Indian spinners
Notably, Brook was dismissed by spin bowlers in all five matches of the series, falling thrice to Varun Chakravarthy and twice to Ravi Bishnoi.
Meanwhile, after the first T20I, he made a controversial statement about not being able to see the ball due to excessive smog in Kolkata.
The comment didn't sit well with cricket enthusiasts and experts alike, including the likes of former Indian spinner R Ashwin.
Strategy critique
Vaughan criticizes Brook's aggressive strategy
Criticizing Brook's aggressive approach against spin, Vaughan said it plays into the opposition's hands.
"They seemed to have a clear strategy to attack the first ball of the over...Harry Brook is definitely part of that problem," Vaughan wrote in his column for The Telegraph.
Additionally, he implied Brook doesn't give spinners the due respect and is too aggressive, and added, "I just think he is too aggressive against spin. He almost disrespects it."
Expert advice
Vaughan advises Brook to learn from Root
Vaughan advised Brook to learn from Joe Root's technique of rotating strike against spin.
He stressed the importance of not always looking for boundaries but also maneuvering the field and creating gaps.
"I'd love him to watch Joe Root, who is a master of going back, hitting into the leg side, nabbing a two, getting off strike," Vaughan stated in his column for The Telegraph.
Dismissal details
Brook's dismissal by Indian leg-spinners
Brook was dismissed by Chakravarthy in the first two matches of the series, with Chakravarthy breaching his defense on both occasions.
In Rajkot, he inside-edged a delivery from Ravi Bishnoi while attempting to sweep him from outside off stump.
While Chakravarthy failed to time a big shot against Chakravarthy in the penultimate match, Brook again miscued a sweep shot against Bishnoi in the series finale.

Overall, in 72 T20 innings against leg spin, Brook has managed 486 runs at a paltry average of 17.35.
