Former ICC CEO named commissioner of USA's National Cricket League
Haroon Lorgat, the former CEO of International Cricket Council (ICC), has been appointed as the commissioner of America's National Cricket League (NCL). The move is part of an initiative to boost cricket's popularity in the US. Lorgat, who operated as ICC's CEO between 2008 and 2012, played a significant role in developing the Decision Review System (DRS), expanding anti-corruption measures, and promoting cricket in associate countries.
Lorgat's vision for NCL and upcoming tournament
Lorgat expressed his privilege at being appointed to this role at a transformative time for the NCL. He emphasized the league's commitment to sustainability and global access, as part of their strategy to reshape American sports for future generations. Under him, the NCL will host its inaugural Sixty Strikes Tournament, a flagship 60-ball cricket format approved by the ICC. The tournament is scheduled from October 4 to 14 at University of Dallas.
NCL's partnership and global recognition
Arun Agarwal, NCL's chairman, highlighted the league's global recognition and praised Lorgat's visionary leadership. He also highlighted a strategic partnership with SEE Holdings, a Dubai-based leader in sustainability and innovation. "With the prestigious ICC endorsement, Haroon Lorgat's visionary leadership, and our strategic partnership with SEE Holdings championing sustainability, we are already reshaping the future of cricket in America," Agarwal stated.
NCL to feature top-tier international players
The NCL is set to feature a host of top-tier players, including Shahid Afridi, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Shakib Al Hasan, Robin Uthappa, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi, Chris Lynn, Angelo Mathews and Colin Munro. Moreover, legends like Zaheer Abbas and Wasim Akram will be seen as mentors and coaches. This high-profile participation is expected to further elevate the status of the NCL on a global scale.
