All about India's new Test team member Hanuma Vihari
India have called up middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari for the remaining two Test matches against England. The 24-year-old player was brought in alongside 18-year-old star, Prithvi Shaw. Vihari has delivered several amazing performances in First-class, which forced the selectors to consider him. He has a plethora of talent and his outstanding tally in domestic cricket is matched by no one at the moment.
Vihari's feats are a class above the rest
The Andhra Pradesh cricketer has a stunning First-class average of 59.79. This tally is best in the world, among the current crop of players. Considering he has played 63 games, this is no mean feat. Vihari has 15 tons that includes a best of 302*. He was the fifth highest run-getter in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy. Vihari averaged 94.00 and hit two tons.
Vihari has repaid faith
Vihari's recent show for India A in England convinced the selectors that this is the best time to draft him into the squad. The selectors had shown a lot of faith in him, and Vihari repaid the same with utmost confidence. He hit a ton each against West Indies A and South Africa A. The call-up looks like a good move by the management.
Vihari to gain immensely during this tour
Vihari, like Shaw, will not be drafted into the playing XI in the remaining two Tests. But the player will gain immensely from the time spent with the senior team. Vihari will be eyeing to make it to the squad against Australia and consistent runs can work wonders. He might be given a shot in XI against West Indies in October.
Vihari could soon be seen in action
Vihari will keep the current crop of India's middle-order batsmen on their toes. If a few more failures creep in for players in those slots, then he could get a chance to come out and impress. A promising phase awaits Indian cricket in coming time.
