Borussia Dortmund through to quarters in Champions League: Records broken
Sevilla fought back from two goals down to equalize against Borussia Dortmund but that wasn't enough as the German side reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Erling Haaland scored twice to give Dortmund the perfect start at home before Sevilla hit back. However, Dortmund won the two-legged tie 5-4 on aggregate to progress. Here are the records broken.
Haaland's goals helps Dortmund draw an entertaining game
The 20-year-old Haaland opened the scoring on 35 minutes. He scored from a tight angle in the second half but the goal was ruled out. However, VAR awarded a penalty for an earlier shirt-pull by Jules Kounde. Haaland saw his attempt and follow-up get saved but VAR felt Porto goalie Yassine Bounou moved too early off his line. Sevilla scored twice from there on.
Remarkable stats for Haaland
Haaland has now scored twice in each of his past four Champions League appearances. As per Opta, he has become the first player to score two or more goals in four consecutive games in the competition. No player has scored more goals than Haaland in the competition since he made his debut in September 2019. Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski has 19 in that time.
