Asia Cup 2018: Afghanistan bow out with their heads high
The most fascinating aspect of the Asia Cup 2018 was Afghanistan's all-round show throughout the tournament. Not even a single match did they surrender meekly. Every time Afghanistan stepped on to the field, they spoke through their performances. On Tuesday, they held India to a fascinating tie in the Super Four. The players deserve every bit of praise for delivering these almost 'match-winning' performances.
Result against India will give Afghans immense joy
Against India, Afghanistan might not have won, but they displayed their winning mentality. India almost had the match in their pocket, but when Ravindra Jadeja miscued a pull-shot, it gave Afghanistan a reason to celebrate. This result against a top side will give them confidence when they face big teams in the World Cup 2019.
Afghanistan's batting a real plus in Asia Cup 2018
Afghanistan put in a commendable shift with the bat throughout the Asia Cup. They consistently got to impressive scores on slow turning pitches. Hashmatullah was a class act and was consistent throughout. Opener Mohammad Shahzad hit a sparkling ton against India. The likes of Mohammad Nabi too made it count in important matches. Altogether in every match someone always came out strong.
An excellent campaign for rising Afghanistan team
Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka by 91 runs to start their campaign. Another massive win came against Bangladesh. In the Super Four they once again played to their strengths, but didn't cross the line. Through these performances we saw a team that came out and played a fearless brand of cricket. The tie against India was their best show.
Afghan spinners led by Rashid is phenomenal
Rashid Khan is definitely the best spinner in the world at the moment in ODIs and T20Is. And he is just 20 years old. Rashid finished with 10 wickets in the tourney and is the top wicket-taker. Teenage spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman's tally of 7 wickets is also impressive. Afghan spinners had a dream run in the Asia Cup and they contributed immensely.
Asia Cup was lit up by Afghanistan
It will be an interesting phase as the ICC World Cup is less than 12 months away. This Asia Cup 2018 will always be remembered for the exploits by the Afghanistan players. Former cricketers, television pundits and fans were all impressed by their cricket. Even MS Dhoni came out and praised the side. What they need is some more experience to finish off games.
