How did Warner fare in his first match in Canada?
Former Australian vice-captain David Warner made a return to cricket in the Global T20 Canada and he did not get off to a start which he would have desired. The southpaw's return lasted just two balls as he opened the batting for Winnipeg Hawks. Warner made only one run before being clean bowled by Lasith Malinga. Here is more about it.
Hawks overcome Montreal Tigers despite Warner's failure
Winnipeg Hawks beat Montreal Tigers quite convincingly by 46 runs to seal the tie. Australian Ben McDermott top-scored for the Hawks with a 68-run blitz. Hawks scored 203-4, before bowling Montreal Tigers out for 157 with 7 balls to spare. Bravo (54) and Miller (35*) chipped in with the bat, as well, to help Hawks get past 200. Junaid Siddiqui then picked three wickets.
Smith scores runs on return
Unlike Warner, fellow Aussie team-mate Steve Smith made a winning return for the Toronto Nationals by scoring 61 off 41 balls. He led the side to a six-wicket victory over the Vancouver Knights at King City. Smith hit eight boundaries and one six.
Runs necessary for banned Aussie cricketers
To make a return to the Australian team, the trio of Warner, Smith and Bancroft will need to be amongst the runs for the next 12 months. It is vital that, irrespective of what form of cricket they play, they should score as many runs as possible. Coach Langer had claimed that the tainted trio would be welcomed if they fight their way back.
Aussies missing Warner and Smith badly
Australia aren't in the best of form and they are clearly missing the impact of Warner and Smith. They lost the ODI series 0-5 against England before going down in the one-off T20I game as well. The duo are serving a 12-month ban.
