What's the story
The latest update to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Men's ODI Player Rankings has made the race for the top batter spot even more competitive.
Pakistan's Babar Azam continues to lead, however, India's Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are not far behind.
Gill has already smashed two successive fifties in the ODI series against England. Rohit hit a ton in the 2nd ODI.

Gill has moved to second spot in the ODI batter rankings, just five rating points behind Babar (786).
Meanwhile, this rise comes after his back-to-back half-centuries, (87 and 60) against England.
Meanwhile, Indian captain Sharma is just 13 rating points behind Babar, a jump propelled by his brilliant century in Cuttack.
Meanwhile, the Champions Trophy event in Pakistan and UAE will start next week, making this battle for 50-over supremacy even more intense.

Notably, several high-profile players have re-entered the ODI batter rankings owing to their recent return to 50-over cricket.
Fakhar Zaman (13th), Kane Williamson (29th), Devon Conway (40th), and Joe Root (51st) are among the notable batters in the rankings.
Meanwhile, the bowling rankings remain tightly contested, with just 18 rating points separating Rashid Khan, Maheesh Theekshana, Bernard Scholtz, Shaheen Afridi, and Kuldeep Yadav in the top five.

Indian bowlers in ODI Rankings and all-rounder updates
Indian bowlers Ravindra Jadeja (11th) and Mohammed Shami (13th) sit just outside the top 10 in the ODI Rankings following their strong performances against England.
In the all-rounder category, Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi continues to lead narrowly.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner climbed two places to seventh, in one of this week's biggest movements ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Changes in Test Rankings after recent victories
The latest Test Rankings have been updated following Australia's victory over Sri Lanka in Galle and Ireland's triumph against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.
Australian opener Usman Khawaja climbed two spots to re-enter the top 10 for Test batters, securing the ninth position after an impressive series against Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, his teammate Alex Carey surged 11 places to 18th after scoring a century in the second match of the series.

Significant advancements in Test batter and bowler Rankings
Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis jumped 14 places to the 28th for Test batters, while Ireland's Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine jumped five places to joint 49th and 17 rungs to 70th respectively.
These promotions come as rewards for their team's victory in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe.
In the bowling department, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon achieved a new career-high rating, jumping a spot to fifth position on the latest rankings for Test bowlers.
