German Football Association suspends two staff members: Know why
The German Football Association (DFB) has suspended two members of its backroom staff, following the heated exchange with Swedish bench. The incident happened post Germany's 2-1 win in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2018. The injury-time goal by Toni Kroos helped the 2014 champions get an unlikely victory, which saw wave of emotions all around. Here is what happened.
Duo asked not to attend match against South Korea
Germany's media coordinator Uli Voigt and head of the backroom staff Georg Behlau, have both been suspended by the governing body. They will not be able to attend the match against South Korea in Kazan. The duo provoked the Swedish bench after Germany's winning goal, which led to heated exchange between the two parties. FIFA is said to be investigating the incident.
DFB regrets behaviour of the pair
Swedish coach Janne Andersson complained about the incident to FIFA. Meanwhile, the DFB too submitted a statement and mentioned about the sequence of events. The DFB stated that it deeply regrets the behaviour of the pair, whose emotions overtook them post the win. The German squad reportedly apologized to their Swedish counterparts post the game.
Group F still not done yet as Germany await fate
Germany need a victory against South Korea to qualify. Toppers Mexico need a point against Sweden to go through. If Mexico lose, then Sweden will have a chance to go through as all three teams will have six points each. If both matches end in draws, then tie-breaker will come into picture between Germany and Sweden. It would get really interesting.
