    George Bailey to become full-time Australian national selector: Details here

    What's the story

    Former Australian skipper George Bailey would take on the role of the national selector, replacing Greg Chappell, following the conclusion of the upcoming season of Big Bash League (BBL).

    Bailey, who plays for Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes, would call time on his career in February, following which he would join the selection panel for the men's national team.

    Following his appointment, Bailey expressed his delight at having the role, besides saying that he was passionate regarding Australia's long-term cricketing success and advancing their game.

    "I'm confident I can add value to the selection process and that my experience will be complementary to that of Trevor and Justin. I am really excited to be joining them in the coming months," he said.

    A look at Bailey's career for Australia

    Considering Bailey's international career, it was a decent one.

    He played 90 ODIs for the side, scoring 3,044 runs at an average of 40.58, including three centuries and 22 half-centuries.

    As for T20Is, he he featured in 30 matches, scoring 473 runs at an average of 24.89, including twin half-centuries.

    He didn't have much success in Tests, scoring 183 runs in five matches.

    Bailey's record as Australian captain

    Considering Australia's performance under Bailey, it was a decent one.

    In ODIs, the side played 29 matches, winning 16 and losing 10.

    Australia had a win percentage of 61.53 under him.

    In T20Is, they played 28 matches, winning 14, besides losing 13.

    He had a win percentage of 51.78.
