No plans to relocate Champions Trophy from Pakistan: ICC CEO
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reaffirmed its commitment to hold the Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. This confirmation comes from Geoff Allardice, the Chief Executive of ICC, who stated that there are no plans to relocate the upcoming tournament. The prestigious event is scheduled for February-March 2025. Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Board is hosting an ICC event for the first time in this century.
PCB initiates venue preparations for Champions Trophy
In anticipation of the tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated construction work in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. These venues are currently being upgraded to meet international standards necessary for hosting the Champions Trophy matches. This proactive approach by PCB underscores their commitment to ensuring a successful event on home soil.
ICC CEO dismisses concerns over tournament relocation
Despite rumors about the tournament being moved due to potential travel issues for the Indian cricket team, Allardice has dismissed these speculations. He clarified that no teams have expressed concerns about traveling to Pakistan for the event. This statement aims to quell any uncertainties surrounding the location of Champions Trophy 2025.
Champions Trophy 2025: A significant event for Pakistan
The upcoming Champions Trophy holds particular importance for Pakistan as it represents their first opportunity to host an ICC event since co-hosting the 1996 World Cup. However, India's participation could pose a challenge given that they have not played in Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup. The BCCI's vice president, Rajeev Shukla, stated that Team India's travel to Pakistan will depend on instructions from the Indian government.
Champions Trophy 2025: The participating teams
The Champions Trophy 2025 will feature top cricketing nations including India, Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. However, Sri Lanka and the West Indies will not be part of this edition. This line-up showcases a diverse range of cricketing talent from across the globe set to compete in Pakistan.
Heavy amount for renovation of stadiums
Meanwhile, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently confirmed that the PCB has allocated 12.8 billion rupees for the renovation of stadiums in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi for the Champions Trophy. Notably, 7.7 billion rupees out of 12.8 billion are being spent on the renovation of Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium. PCB has earmarked 3.5 and 1.5 billion rupees for Karachi's National Stadium and Pindi Stadium, respectively.
