Sunil Gavaskar shares interesting opinion regarding Kohli-Rohit rift story
The news of a possible rift between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and opener Rohit Sharma is doing rounds. While Kohli has strictly denied any such rift, he was baffled by the stories circulating in the media, and brushed it aside as mere stories. Meanwhile, Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar has recently said that this rift story could continue for ages. Here's why he feels so.
Kohli terms these false stories as ridiculous to read
Speaking on the possible rift, Kohli said that he finds it ridiculous to even read these. He said that while in public events they are treated with respect and are praised, the stories are feeding lies and are overlooking the facts. He was baffled at the way these stories create fantasies in people's head. Nonetheless, Kohli insisted that his relationship with Rohit is fine.
"This story won't end"
"Virat and Rohit can shout from the rooftops as much as they can, but this story won't end. Every time Rohit fails, there will be those who will nod their heads knowingly and wink, hinting he deliberately got out," wrote Gavaskar for Sportstar.
Gavaskar warns that these story tellers are Indian cricket's enemies
Gavaskar, however, warned that the person who starts these stories is not a well-wisher of Indian cricket. Also, he added that they are backed by some frustrated players, while their envy and jealousy harm the team. "Then, of course, it suits some administrators to play their own game of politics," Gavaskar further wrote in his column.
Non-match days fuels fire to these stories, believes Gavaskar
Gavaskar further said that while the match days suppress these stories, it is during the non-match days these stories get resurfaced, fuelling the fire to it. "Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are professionals and they will put their heads down and go out to win matches for India, but the story won't stop even 20 years later," opined Gavaskar.
Stories make no sense as long as Kohli-Rohit stay put
After Kohli, Gavaskar too believes there is nothing like that in Indian cricket, as both the players are professionals and know how to separate fantasy from reality. While the author firmly agrees with Kohli and Gavaskar, he also feels that as long as Kohli and Rohit stay put on the same page, these stories would be deemed baseless.
