Delhi Daredevils announce Gambhir as captain for IPL 2018
Delhi Daredevils on Wednesday announced Gautam Gambhir as their new skipper for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 season. The southpaw represented the Daredevils in the first three seasons of the IPL. He was bought for Rs. 2.8 crore at the Bengaluru auction in January 2018. Gambhir stated he is honoured to lead the side and is looking forward to work with Ricky Ponting.

Gambhir has been successful in IPL with 4,132 runs in 148 matches. During the last 10 seasons he has scored 35 fifties. He had scored 500+ runs in three different IPL seasons. Last season, he amassed 498 runs for KKR at an average of 41.50.
His achievements at KKR
Gambhir was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011, for a record $2.5 million. He captained the side in seven successive seasons. He scored a record 590 runs in 2012 campaign helping KKR to win their first ever IPL trophy. He led them to the 2nd IPL title in 2014. In seven seasons under Gambhir, KKR reached the play-offs five times.
