Gambhir-led management blames IPL salaries for India's Test slump: Report
What's the story
The Indian cricket team's dismal run in Tests of late has triggered a chain of discussions in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The BCCI, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Test captain Rohit Sharma, held a meeting to discuss the issue.
Reportedly, the team management blamed the players' IPL earnings for their underperformance in Tests, according to Dainik Jagran.
New regulations
BCCI to implement new protocols for players
In wake of the team's recent Test cricket slump, the BCCI is reportedly planning to introduce new protocols for players.
These include restrictions on family time during tours and independent transportation use.
For tours of 45 days, players will only be allowed to spend a maximum of 14 days with their families. On shorter foreign tours, immediate family members can stay up to a week.
Staff evaluation
Gambhir's support staff under scrutiny
The BCCI review meeting also questioned the credentials of head coach Gautam Gambhir's support staff.
There is a rising opinion in the team that assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate do not have enough coaching experience for Test cricket.
The only exception was bowling coach Morne Morkel, who has an outstanding record as a Test player.
Future plans
BCCI to address criticism post-Champions Trophy
The BCCI plans to tackle the criticism of Gambhir's support staff after the Champions Trophy.
There are plans for further reinforcements in the coaching staff, especially those with technical know-how, for the upcoming England tour.
This comes after India's dismal performance under Gambhir's leadership, starting with a 0-2 ODI series defeat in Sri Lanka and an unprecedented 0-3 whitewash at home in a Test series against New Zealand.
They recently lost the away Test series against Australia 1-3.
