We will deal with day-night Tests, says Sourav Ganguly
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president-elect and former India captain Sourav Ganguly said discussing the idea of Team India playing pink-ball cricket would definitely be on his top to-do list after he joins office. Dada is officially set to take over as BCCI president from October 23. Here is what Ganguly said regarding day-night Tests.
D/N Tests to be on Dada's agenda
Ganguly has been a strong advocate of day-night Tests and one could see him working on this segment. Team India is yet to play a day-night Test. Ahead of India's 2018-19 Test series against Australia, there were shouts of India agreeing to play the same, but the BCCIdeclined the move. However, Dada said discussing the idea of D/N Tests will be on his agenda.
Why did the BCCI go against day-night Tests?
Earlier, the BCCI said that ICC didn't include the pink-ball Test in the World Test Championship 2019-21, therefore, the Indian body went on to change its stance. The BCCI had also ruled out the possibility of hosting a D/N Test against West Indies in October 2018. BCCI wanted normal day Tests like before rather than experimenting with the pink ball in Adelaide against Australia.
We will discuss this with every member, says Dada
"We will deal with it. It is too early for me to comment on how we will work on this, but let me take office and then we will discuss this with every member," he said to IANS.
'Wrong to think that Test Championship wouldn't have D/N matches'
Meanwhile, Ganguly has pointed that it would be wrong to think that the World Test Championship wouldn't see matches played under lights. "World Test Championship has day-night Test because Adelaide will host pink-ball Test. I don't think it is the right call to say that World Test Championship wouldn't have day-night Tests," said Ganguly.
India, Bangladesh yet to feature in day-night Test
Australia and New Zealand played the first ever D/N Test in Adelaide on November 27, 2015. Since then all ICC Full Member nations have played D/N Tests barring India and Bangladesh. A total of 11 D/N Test matches have been held till now. Australia have featured in five day-night Tests. They are set to play a D/N Test against Pakistan and New Zealand next.
Will speak to selectors about Dhoni on October 24: Ganguly
Dada is also set to speak to the selectors regarding MS Dhoni's future. There has been a lot of speculation on Dhoni's retirement. Ganguly had said earlier that the selectors should take a call. "I will find out from the selectors when I meet them on 24th. I will find out what the selectors are thinking. Then I will put my opinion," said Dada.
