Gautam Gambhir slams Ravi Shastri: Know why
Gautam Gambhir has slammed Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri over his best touring team comment. Shastri had made the comment after India's 1-4 Test series loss against England earlier this year. The coach had received flak from several former cricketers earlier as well. Here is more on the same.
What did Shastri say back in September?
In September, Shastri jumped in to defend the Test team and hailed the side as the 'best Indian outfit in last 15-20 years'. The comments had come after India lost another Test series away from home, against the Three Lions, in England. The coach had claimed the Kohli-led side has performed really well in overseas tours, something that previous Indian teams never achieved.
Shastri's comments in England
Shastri had said, "The endeavour is to travel well, compete and win. I can't see any other Indian team in the last 15-20 years that has had the same run in such a short time, and you have had some great players playing then."
Gambhir questions Shastri's achievements
According to reports, Gambhir lashed out at Shastri and said, "I don't know what Shastri has achieved in his career." The southpaw became the latest former cricketer to slam Shastri. Earlier, the likes of Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar had hit out at the coach for his comments. The CoA too had come down hard on Shastri for his comments.
Gavaskar, Dada had lashed out at Shastri
Shastri's comments didn't go well with Sunil Gavaskar. The former Indian skipper stated that teams in 1980s won abroad and then praised Rahul Dravid's team, which won Tests overseas in 2000s. Sourav Ganguly, who had led India to several memorable away victories laughed at Shastri and called him immature. He also added that these days nobody pays any attention to what Shastri says.
