Here's what Gambhir said on what separates Kohli as captain
There has been a longstanding debate if Virat Kohli is a better leader than other former Indian captains. While critics have expressed different and contradicting views on this, many believe that he should not be compared as of now. Meanwhile, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir believes that there is a notable element that separates him from others. Here's what Gambhir exactly feels.
Gambhir hails Kohli's fearless attitude
Gambhir said that the distinctive feature that separates Kohli from others is his fearless attitude. "If you're scared of losing, you will never win and probably, that's the biggest plus he has. He isn't scared of losing," Gambhir was quoted as saying to Star Sports.
Gambhir claims Kohli has taken the risk unlike other captains
Gambhir further added that Kohli's fearless attitude has led him to take some risks which former captains like Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and MS Dhoni were not willing to take, as India have started winning overseas now. "The others always wanted an extra batsman, so that they don't lose the test match," recalled Gambhir.
Kohli's gamble with five bowler at overseas has worked: Gambhir
"Virat is the only captain who has gone abroad and played with five bowlers, with Hardik Pandya being an all-rounder. There was Hardik Pandya and four other fast bowlers. He has taken that gamble and he has succeeded," concluded Gambhir.
Kohli has led India to world record home series wins
While Kohli led India in his 50th Test as captain during the second Test against South Africa, the win allowed India to register their 11th straight home Test series win. Meanwhile, nine of them have come under Kohli's captaincy. This is also the 13th overall Test series win for Kohli as Test skipper, as he has gone past Dhoni's feat of 12.
Kohli's record as India's Test captain
Following are few of the records held by Kohli as India's Test captain: Scoring 1,000 runs in three consecutive calendar years (2016-18). Has scored the most double hundreds as Test skipper (7). Has the most Test wins as Indian captain (30). Is the most successful away Test skipper for India (13 wins). Has the most Test wins as Indian captain outside Asia (8).
