French Open: Iga Swiatek sets records with win over Jeanjean
World number one Iga Swiatek reached the 2024 French Open second round after beating qualifier Leolia Jeanjean. The Poland star breezed past Jeanjean with a 6-1, 6-2 win after just over an hour. Swiatek, who won her 15th straight match at Roland Garros, will take on Naomi Osaka in second round. The former has won 29 of her first 31 French Open matches.

Swiatek won a total of 54 points and 26 winners throughout the match. She served one ace compared to Jeanjean's none. The Polish star had a win percentage of 78 and 50 in the first and second serves, respectively. She won 10 of her 12 net points. Swiatek (18) had more unforced errors than Jeanjean (5). Jeanjean recorded two double-faults.
Swiatek only behind these stars
It is worth noting that Swiatek has won 29 of her first 31 matches at the French Open. As per Opta, she is only behind Monica Seles and Chris Evert in this regard, each of whom won 30 matches. Notably, Swiatek reigned supreme after beating Karolina Muchova to win the 2023 French Open. She claimed her second successive Roland Garros honor.
First player with this feat
As per Opta, Swiatek has become the first player to win 15 consecutive matches at the French Open since Justine Henin. The latter won 24 such matches between 2005 and 2010.
A record six titles in 2023
Swiatek stamped her authority on the WTA Tour in 2023. The Polish star went on to win six titles, a run that included a record-breaking French Open honor. Swiatek finished the year with the WTA Finals title, winning it without dropping a set. She then became the year-end number one for the second successive season. Swiatek had a win-loss record of 68-11 in 2023.
Swiatek continues her bright form
Swiatek entered the French Open on the back of two consecutive titles - Internazionali BNL d'Italia and Madrid Open. She defeated world number two Aryna Sabalenka in the finals of both the tournaments. The Polish star also won the BNP Paribas Open and Qatar Open earlier this year. The world number one is currently 39-4 in 2024.
Swiatek to take on Osaka
As mentioned, Swiatek will take on Osaka in the next round. The two players have met twice on the WTA Tour. Swiatek defeated Osaka in the 2022 Miami final, while the Japanese star prevailed in 2019 in Toronto.
