ICC inducts new members in ICC ODI rankings
In a massive boost to international cricket, the ICC has included Nepal, Netherlands, Scotland and the UAE in its ODI rankings list. This will the total number of nations in this list to 16. The international board has stated that the results of all the bilateral ODIs, involving these new teams, will be taken into account while calculating the rating points.
Netherlands, Scotland, Nepal and UAE will be the new members
The Dutch secured their status and a place in the 13-team ODI league after winning the ICC World Cricket League Championship last year. Further, Scotland, Nepal and UAE earned their ODI status as they were top three associate nations in the World Cup Qualifier 2018.
Cricket fraternity welcomes new teams in ODI rankings
"Points and matches played between May 1, 2015 and April 30, 2017 will be weighted at 50 per cent, whereas, matches played after May 1, 2017 will be weighted at 100 per cent," ICC stated in its latest press release.
New teams will also play other full member nations
Scotland are currently ranked 13th with 28 points, 10 points behind 12th ranked Ireland. The United Arab Emirates are placed 14th on the ranking table with 18 points. Nepal and the Netherlands will need to play four matches more in order to get on to the table. Netherlands currently have 13 points. These new teams will also play against full-member nations.
ICC ODI rankings will now have 16 teams
The rankings for the four new teams will be based on all the ODIs played since May 2015 by Scotland and the UAE against the full members nations and against each other. Non-ODIs played by the Netherlands and Nepal against full members, Scotland and the UAE as part of the ICC World Cup Qualifying tournament 2018 will also be taken into consideration.
