#GamingBytes: Fortnite update will bring in-game tournaments
Fortnite has seen its popularity growing across the world. To make it even more interesting, developers Epic announced the introduction of 'Tournaments' to the game's Battle Royale mode. This addition will be a part of update 6.10, coming on October 16, and will be open to everyone, giving newcomers a chance to fight alongside pros. Read all about the 'Tournaments' here.
All details about Fortnite's tournaments
Epic announced that the tournaments would last for several hours. They could be won by earning the most possible amount of points, either through the elimination of enemies or reaching high placements. On reaching a tournament's target score, players will be awarded a special pin, which might qualify players for prizes or allow them to advance to the tournament's next round in the future.
Tournament: Run time and modes
The tournaments, that are being introduced in-game, will start from October 16, when the update comes out and will run till November 1. The tournaments will last between two and five days. The Salty Springs Cup and Alpha Tournament will be solo playable tournaments, the Tomato Temple Cup and the Beta Tournament are for duos while Friday Night Fortnite is meant for squad play.
All about the matchmaking and controller settings
The tournament will have skill based matchmaking. If a session goes well, the gamer will face tougher opponents, while those struggling will see weaker opponents. The tournaments will not be segmented on controller preferences. This means console gamers can compete with PC gamers. The live tournaments of Fortnite have seen pro-console gamers match PC players' skills, but the Fortnite amateurs are in untested waters.
