#GamingBytes: Fortnite Infinity Blade removed by Epic from Battle Royale
Fortnite by Epic Games is one of the most popular Battle Royales and Epic keeps interest alive by continuously adding new content, in the form of in-game items and costumes. However, these items do not always work out. One of its most recent additions was the Infinity Blade, which immediately caused a severe imbalance in gameplay, leading to its removal. Read about it here.
Gamers confused over sudden addition and removal of blade
Gamers have been rather confused by Epic's stance regarding the blade. It was recently added to the Battle Royale mode of Fortnite in its 7.01 update patch from Epic's iOS game Infinity Blade. However, this mythic item was soon removed in the next update leading to confusion among gamers and raising questions whether the item would ever return to the Battle Royale mode again.
Why was the Infinity Blade removed?
Epic removed the Infinity Blade based on straightforward logic. It concluded that the mythic item was too overpowered and did not have any items or weapons that could counter it, towards the later stages of the game. This convinced Epic that it had 'messed up' and forced the studio to remove the mythic item, just a few days after it had been implemented.
Epic issues a formal statement about the removal
Epic said about the Infinity Blade, "We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game. The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items".
Infinity Blade truly was an extremely powered up weapon
The Infinity Blade truly was an extremely powered up weapon available in the main game. It gave the user a damage of 75 with each swing, while also giving 200 health and 200 shield abilities. Coupled with user's ability to leap great distances, using this blade as well as being able to bulldoze structures pushed the gameplay severely off-balance towards the later stages especially.
Our take on the removal of Infinity Blade
While we understand how the immensely powered Infinity Blade disturbed the fairness that is important in the Battle Royale, we hope the item is not removed forever. Instead, Epic should power it down or introduce weapons to counter it within the game.
