Fortnite is giving away Season 8 Battle Pass for free
The competition is heating up in the Battle Royale genre of gaming with the recent release of Apex Legends. For the first time, Fortnite is facing the real possibility of being dethroned as the popular king of Battle Royales. To combat this, Epic Games has come up with a brilliant strategy of giving away Season 8 Battle Passes for free. Read on.
Apex Legends has become a favorite among streamers, scaring Fortnite
Ever since Fortnite entered the scene it has fended off attacks from the popular PUBG and the recent Call of Duty: Blackout. The game has offered new content and exciting gameplay to keep its base hooked. However, as we reported, Apex Legends is making waves and has already amassed 25 million gamers besides having quickly become the Battle Royale chosen by most streamers.
Update v7.40 will bring free Battle Pass, Epic announced
The free Season 8 Battle Pass will be part of Fortnite's upcoming v7.40 update. Epic has told players that they must complete 13 of 20 Overtime Challenges by February 27, in order to obtain the Battle Pass for free. Notably, the Battle Pass will give players two outfits immediately and give them the chance to earn five more throughout Season 8 of Fortnite.
Making paid content free is Epic's way of retaining gamers
For those unaware, the Battle Pass normally costs 950 V-Bucks which amounts to around $10 or Rs. 700 and provides 100 in-game rewards like emotes, skins, weapon customizations. By making its paid premium content accessible to all in an unprecedented move, Epic is trying to retain the loyal gamer base, and prevent them from flocking to the newer, equally free to play Apex Legends.
Overtime Challenges will help Fortnite overcome post-season lull
Fortnite's Overtime Challenges might require a lot of grinding. However, it will help the gamers get over the post-season lull. Currently, the Season 7 Battle Pass is not offering any new weekly challenges. Thus, while gamers await the arrival of the new season's content in two weeks, the challenges should keep them occupied and stop them from switching loyalties to the newest Battle Royale.
