Gamers playing 'Fortnite' got a new year's surprise
Fortnite decided to make the new year special for those players who were logged into the game during midnight. It ushered in festivities in the Battle Royale and the celebrations included a huge spinning disco ball. There were also fireworks as they spelled out the message '2019' in the skies. Notably, a New Zealand game streamer first captured the celebrations on video.

Streamer's post details how the 'Fortnite' celebration took place
The streamer, known as Rocky, posted a video which recorded the celebrations. He tweeted it calling it the "in-game New Years event," and wished his followers a happy new year. In his video, other participants realized the celebrations are for new year's but one person remarked that it is '3 AM'. This indicates the celebration did not occur at midnight for everyone.

The new year celebration is the latest in a long list of special in-game events by Fortnite. These events can only be witnessed by gamers who happen to be playing the game at the moment it takes place.
