Former Indian batting coach, Sanjay Bangar, has recalled Shubman Gill's first-ever net session with the senior national team.
The occasion was highlighted by Gill's incredible display against throwdown specialists, a performance that left then-coach Ravi Shastri impressed.

Bangar explained the importance of doing well against throwdown specialists in a player's first net session.
He recalled the session and stated, "The first glimpse of Shubman Gill we had during his first net session, there is a tradition in India that during the nets session, if you want that approval, you will have to do well against throwdown specialists, who bowl really fast."
He further praised Gill and stated, "And unhone uss nets session mein, aise patakhe bajaye the."

Since making his debut in 2019 following a remarkable performance in the 2018 U19 World Cup, Gill has established himself as one of India's top all-format players.

His record features phenomenal scores across formats with his highest being an ODI score of 208.

Gill's ODI record is truly remarkable, amassing 2,415 runs in 48 matches and innings at an impressive average of 58.90.
He has struck six centuries and 14 fifties, with a top score of 208.
Notably, he holds the record for the fastest 2,000 ODI runs globally, achieved in just 38 innings, and is the youngest player to score an ODI double century.
Test and T20I
Gill's performance in other formats
Despite his ODI brilliance, Gill's Test performance suggests room for improvement. He has scored 1,893 runs in 32 Tests across 59 innings at an average of 35.05.
In T20Is, he has accumulated 578 runs in 21 matches, averaging 30.42 with a strike rate of 139.27.
Meanwhile, during his last ODI appearance, Gill played a crucial knock of 87 off 96 balls, (14 boundaries) against England, guiding India during a tense 249-run chase after being reduced to 19 for two.
