David Luiz made a surprise return to Chelsea after spending two years with Paris Saint-Germain. The Brazilian signed a deal worth €62 million, a world record transfer for a defender. He was part of the blues for three years from 2011 to 2014, before he joined the French club. Luiz has signed a three year deal with Chelsea.

In a record $116m deal, Pogba returns to ManU

Signing a five year deal, French footballer Paul Pogba returned to English club Manchester United in a record €105m deal, making him the world's most expensive footballer. As a teenager, Pogba was part of ManU before he shifted to Italian club Juventus in 2012. Previously, Gareth Bale was the most expensive player when he was bought by Real Madrid for €100m.

Juventus make Italy's most expensive deal

In what will be the most expensive transfer in the history of Italian football, Juventus has signed a five-year deal with Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain for €90 million. Gonzalo was acquired from Napoli, with whom he has been playing from 2013. This deal is the fourth costliest in the world, making Gonzalo the most expensive South-American footballer of all time.

Spanish club Barcelona FC spent more than €100m, acquiring six new faces for the club.
